about Fresh Air Machines

Noted for his preferred mode of transport being the bicycle, the wonderful Scottish poet, songwriter and humourist, Ivor Cutler1 had a sticker on his with the words “Fresh Air Machine”2. I think he is attributed as saying that bicycles made you too happy.

The expression Fresh Air Machine seems to encompass all that there is about a bicycle, whether you are on a family leisure ride, off-road in the woods or on the hills, touring the length and breadth of the land or taking part in an elite event.

Look after your bike, ride it; it will make you happy. Guaranteed!

Who am I?

Fresh Air Machines

The person behind the name is Peter. First bike at age 7. First attempt at finding out how a bike works, age 7! No matter what bicycle I have owned, I have always been inclined to strip them down and rebuild them.

I certainly am not an elite cyclist, though I admire many. I do love making a bike work and feel like new and I realised in 2022 that this has become a bit of a passion. I took this passion one step further and achieved Cytech Technical 2, an internationally recognised qualification for cycle technicians. This and experience as a tech for a retail company is the perfect foundation for ensuring that you get the V.I.B. treatment.

In 2008, my then fiancĂ©, Caroline, and I cycled the famous Land’s End to John o’Groats’ route. We treated ourselves to our beloved Van Nicholas Amazon bicycles and planned a route that kept us off the main roads and through as much of the beautiful nations of England, Wales and Scotland as possible, including the north coast of Cornwall, the Welsh Marches, the Eden Valley, Arran and the Great Glen. A truly memorable and thoroughly amazing experience. Not least for the fact that we became Mr & Mrs on day 9 as we stopped off at Gretna Green to be married. From Mr & Miss to Mr & Mrs in 1045 miles!
